Final Thoughts

Final Recommendation
If you’re in the market for a dash cam that won’t break the bank but still delivers top-notch performance, the Ssontong 1080P Dash Cam should be at the top of your list. It’s a small investment for significant peace of mind on the road.
Okay, now it’s important to note that when using a suction mount, the surface you are about to put it on should always be cleaned and made ready for such an item. Don’t just apply the suction cup to the surface without preparing the surface first.
Keep in mind that the built-in battery (300mAh) is really to maintain and save your preferred settings. It’s not for the dash cam to operate without the proper source. That means your dash cam should be plugged in so that it functions properly.
As mentioned, this is a single dash cam so you’ll get front coverage only. But If you want more coverage, front and rear, as opposed to the front only, Ssontong also has a dual dash cam.
I dont find the night vision recording that good. It doesnt pick up numberplates and is very much affected by all lights
Duly noted. I think that what needs to be kept in mind is that lighting for any camera is important, be it a dash cam or other camera. Lighting can affect how clear an image comes out on a camera. As far as picking up number plates, the closer you are, the dash cam would be better able to pick the plate. In general, the closer we are to some thing, we can see it much clearer and that goes for a dash cam as well. As budget dash cams go, this one seems popular with Amazon UK customers.
I can’t seem to get it to record continuously, the loop function has been turned off but it won’t record for more than 5 minutes before looping. Using the lowest definition, 32g card.
Why would you turn off the loop function? The loop recording feature makes sure that the dashcam can keep recording even when the SD card is full. Loop recording stores the video files on the SD card for about 3 or 5 minutes. Why don’t you turn it on and see what happens.
Can this be powered by the USB port in my car? I bought one from a poor seller on amazon and my only 12v Cigarette outlet is a constant power on, so the dashcam does not turn on and off with the car, it has to be manually turned on and will only turn off when i have auto off selected. Yes its plugged into the cigarette lighter. no where does it warn about having a constant power 12v and having the features not work as advertised, the parking collision detection does work but once a collision is detected the camera turns on, starts recording but never turns off after 30 seconds, i watched it for over 5 minutes after i bumped it to simulate a collision and it didnt turn off, Terrible product, the motion sensor setting wont work either, select on, go back into the menu and its off, no matter how many times i tried to select the motion setting while parked and not recording it would not stay on, I bought a Mini usb cable to see if i can plug it into the USB port that powers on and off with my car, if that doesnt work ill be returning it.
Hey Ian,
Thanks for dropping by. It seems like you got a lemon from that seller. I would definitely return it if it’s not working the way it’s supposed to.
I’m having problems with recordings. on playback, there is no video. only sound. how do is this corrected?
Hi AJ
Did you use the USB cable to connect to your PC to view the files? You can also use the USB reader. That’s one of the things you need to pay attention to when using this dash cam.
Any purchase made online is covered b the Distance Selling Regulations Act and the Sales of Goods Act 2015. Each item will come with a manufacturer warranty of 12 months and under the Laws of England, electrical and electronic equipment can be covered for up to six years. The goods made should provide a reasonable expectation on quality as to how long they should last. I would contact Amazon Customer Service and raise your issue with them, to begin with, if that fails, then you have the right to subject the company to a small claims matter in which you will be able to apply for your costs to be refunded, plus the value of the item paid for.
Hi Steve,
That’s some really good information you shared there. Much appreciated. Amazon is pretty good about making sure their customers are refunded when it comes to products that are “lemons.”
I purchased one of these dash cams and the seller from Amazon has chosen to ignore my complaint about the item not loop recording, waste of money
Hey Gareth
Sorry to hear that. Seems like that seller sold you a lemon. If that Amazon seller was serious about customer service, they’d do the right thing and send you a replacement.
Please can you explain how to change the date on my new Mode:a10 dash cam . Thanks Colin
Hey Colin
If you are referring to the A10 dual dash cam, check out this video for lots more detail.
