In Car Cell Phone Holders

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Keep yourself safe while driving by having one of the best mobile phone holders in your vehicle. Before making your choice, there are four qualities we think you should consider. The best cell phone holder for your car, should have the following four (4) qualities:

  1. Sturdy
  2. The right fit
  3. Easily reachable, and
  4. Allow for easy viewing

1. Sturdy

Regardless of the type of phone holder, it should be sturdy. The phone holder should be strong enough to hold your device given its size. So you want to choose a phone holder for your vehicle based on its ability to support the size of the device you are using. Especially if you are driving on rough terrain.

If you are driving regularly on bumpy roads, or rough terrain, then this could influence the type of phone holder you get yourself. Driving on a well paved road would be different to driving on rough terrain or an otherwise bumpy road. As such, a phone holder that attaches to your air vent may not be the best choice.

2. The Right Fit

The last thing you want to do is damage your smartphone. As such, you want your the phone holder to able to hold your device safely and securely but without damaging it. So the right fir is important. No one wants their precious smartphone falling out of its holder.

3. Easily Reachable

The phone holder in the car should allow your mobile phone to be easily reachable. Some people prefer cup holders for phones as opposed to phone mounts, as it’s an easy placement. However, in choosing a cup holder for your phone, you definitely want to ensure that the arm allows for easy access.

I’m not a big fan cup phone holders, since it’s not eye level and you have to take your eyes off the road to look at your phone. But some of those cup phone holders are very sturdy and they do a great job of securing mobile phones.

4. Easy Viewing

Your in car cell phone holder should definitely allow for easy viewing of your mobile phone, especially if you are using it for directions. You definitely don’t want to be taking your eyes off the road for too long. Having a cell phone holder that can provide a view of your mobile phone within eye level is a much better choice. That would suggest a cell phone holder that you can attach to your dashboard. That way you can maintain the same level of visual contact of the road, even if you may glance at your mobile phone from time to time.

  1. I must admit, I am not a big fan of talking on the mobile while driving. Even with a phone holder I think it is not the ideal way to go. I was just reading the other day about an older driver from Australia who collided with a young mum and her baby, instantly killing both of them. He was devastated, but too late for remorse as the deed was done. So I suppose if you must use a mobile phone in your car, a phone holder is the best way to go. Then set it up so you can voice access it.

    1. Hi Steve,

Thanks for dropping by. An in-car cell phone holder is not about talking or texting on the phone while you drive.  That’s an absolute no no in my book because it’s a distraction and it’s a dangerous thing to do. However, some people use their mobile phone for directions so in a case like that, you need something holding your phone, as opposed to having it in your hand.

Really sorry to hear about that mum and her baby. Was the driver texting and driving?

  2. I do not really think that a car holder is needed unless you are an uber driver or a delivery man or you simply just use google maps wherever you go. I say this because I believe that we should not be on our phones when we are driving. It is not safe at all.

    1. Hi Daniel

Thanks for stopping by. Texting and driving is absolutely unsafe but some people continue to do that. Apart from delivery and Uber/Lyft drivers, other people use their mobile phone for directions as well. However, handsfree is the best way to utilize a mobile phone when driving, so an in-car cell phone holder comes in handy for that purpose.

  3. Thank you for the information. I will take a look into the holders you have recommended. The problems with some holders I have had in the past was the holder slipping off the window screen or dashboard whilst driving. I will take on board your tips to look out for when shopping for my next one.

    1. You’re most welcome. One thing you definitely don’t want is your phone holder to be falling with your phone in it. So you definitely need to look for a sturdy cell phone holder you can use in your car.
